Romans 8:19 — For the creation waits in eager expectation (NIV).
What are you waiting on in expectation? Many people wait on things; however, not everyone waits with expectation. Expectation is the act or state of looking forward to or anticipating, and one of its synonyms is confidence.
When you have confidence, you know that what you are waiting on is coming. It may not happen in your timing, but it will happen. God has been, is, and always will be faithful to do everything He has promised. Hebrews 10:35 says, “So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded” (NIV). Without confidence, you are unlikely to wind up at your final destination.
My father-in-law battled cancer for about five years, and he was initially given only six months to a year to live. Doctors, nurses, friends, family, and strangers were all amazed at his progress and determination. He beat the odds! Why? It was his expectation and confidence—his optimistic outlook—that brought him victory. He refused to lie around feeling sorry for himself, though he had every right to. Instead he made every effort to make each day count.
Many people start; some people finish, but few finish strong. I believe it’s because they lack confidence. Again, what are you waiting on in expectation? Don’t cast away your confidence, but rather finish strong.
Proverbs 3:26 — For the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught (ESV).
