Colossians 2:14 — He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross (NLT).
Jesus canceled your record of wrongs, no matter how exhaustive the list might be. All of the charges against you were nailed to the cross with Him. When He came down, your sin remained. Now the only power the past has over you is the power you give it.
Why did Jesus do it? He willingly gave His life because of His great love for you and because He is rich in mercy (Ephesians 2:4). He saw you as worth every drop of blood He shed. He did it so you might be found acceptable in the eyes of God. Jesus has already done everything He’s going to do to make you righteous. The moment you received Christ as your Lord and Savior, God put His stamp of approval on you. You were granted right standing with Him. Now, it’s up to you whether you ever see yourself that way or not.
Many believers spend too much time fretting over charges God has already dropped through Christ. Revelation 12:10 calls Satan the accuser of the brethren. The devil will never stop accusing you. He constantly brings charges against you to God and will forever hold sin over your head. He doesn’t want you to see yourself as the righteous person you are.
My prayer is for your eyes to be opened today. Romans 8:1 says, “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (NIV). In other words, no matter what others may dig up from your past, you have nothing to be ashamed of and no reason to feel guilty. God expunged your record through Jesus. By faith, may you see yourself the way He does—forgiven, redeemed, and blameless.
