Receive and Return

Hebrews 11:17-19 — By faith, Abraham, at the time of testing, offered Isaac back to God. Acting in faith, he was as ready to return the promised son, his only son, as he had been to receive him—and this after he had already been told, “Your descendants shall come from Isaac.” Abraham figured that if God wanted to, He could raise the dead. In a sense, that’s what happened when he received Isaac back, alive from off the altar (MSG).

Let’s chew on this statement for a second: “He was as ready to return the promise…as he was to receive it.” Wow! I wonder if you would be honest with yourself today and answer this question: Would I be just as ready and willing to return God’s promise to Him as I was to receive it?

Abraham knew that God could raise Isaac from the dead. His faith was not in the promise but in the Promise Keeper. Glory!

What has God asked you to put on the altar? What is your Isaac? Be obedient! God is faithful. The same God that gave you the promise is the same God who provides “rams in the thicket.” He is the Promise Keeper, the Way Maker, the Great I am, and the Faithful One.

Laying your promise on the altar is an act of obedience and trust. God wants to test your faith so you can come forth like pure gold, shining like the glory of God. Lay it all out today. Look in the distance. He will provide a lamb, and then blow everything you’ve ever imagined out of the water!
