Do Not Resuscitate

Romans 6:4 — For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives (NLT).

DNR (Do Not Resuscitate) orders are instructions written by a physician telling healthcare providers not to perform CPR on an individual whose heart or breathing has stopped. If there is no DNR order, medical technicians will immediately begin CPR to restore the work of the heart and lungs.

A patient may not want CPR administered for a variety of reasons. I want to mention two of them in particular. First of all, there’s no medical benefit expected; and second, the quality of life would suffer. If one or both of these were a possibility, a DNR would likely be recommended.

The Great Physician has issued a DNR order on the old you. Do not, for any reason, attempt to bring your sinful nature back to life. You are no longer obligated to it (Romans 8:12). You’re blessed with every spiritual blessing in Christ (Ephesians 1:3), and your quality of life has never been better!
