Begin Afresh

Lamentations 3:22-23The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is His faithfulness; His mercies begin afresh each morning (NLT).

These two verses are both comforting and challenging. First of all, I’m very thankful the great love and rich mercy God has for each of us never ceases. There is nothing we could ever think, say, or do to exhaust the love of God. His faithfulness is too great! No matter how often we try to change His mind about us, His love remains constant and His mercies renew every day.

Here’s the challenging part, and what keeps me on a constant quest to grow my love capacity. We are to love others the same way God loves us. That means our love should never run out on anyone, and we should give everyone a fresh start each morning.

As a school teacher, I purpose to give every student a blank slate when that bell rings in the morning. And since I’m in P. E., I start over with hundreds of kids every day! Some are obviously more difficult to do this with than others, but they all deserve my very best. However, I can’t give them my best if I’m not willing to renew my mercies each time they come into class, especially for those who push my buttons just right.

I want to encourage you to begin afresh today and every day. Perhaps you’ve been hurt repeatedly by a certain person or group. Don’t allow their wrongs to prevent you from doing what’s right. It’s because of God’s faithful love and rich mercy toward us that we’re able to offer the same to others.
