Romans 3:3-4 — 3 What if some did not have faith? Will their lack of faith nullify God’s faithfulness? 4 Not at all! Let God be true, and every man a liar (NIV).
This is one of the greatest truths in all of Scripture. The faithfulness of God is not contingent on the faithfulness of any human being. Another version says even if everyone else is a liar, God is true (NLT). Isn’t it comforting to know that God is who He is no matter what we do? Hallelujah!
Every Christian’s faith gets tested, and many fail the test miserably. I know there have been times in my life when I have questioned God’s faithfulness because my faith was exhausted. I have been angry with Him, and I was the one who had changed.
God does not compromise. He is constant. He has always been the same, and He will always remain the same. God’s character does not go through developmental stages as He gets older. Deuteronomy 32:4 says, “He is the Rock, His works are perfect, and all His ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is He” (NIV). God is, always has been, and always will be, perfect and just. Let this truth sink in today.
Many believers have the tendency to beat themselves up when they feel as if their faith has failed. You may be one of them. Please listen. God does not punish us when our faith is tested, so stop punishing yourself. Guilt is unhealthy for you and everyone else connected to you.
Remember this: Just because God doesn’t beat you up because of a lack of faith does not mean you should be content if your faith level is low. It’s His desire for you to lean on Him when your faith is struggling. If you are being tested today, allow Him to strengthen you. He is faithful even when you’re not.
2 Corinthians 12:9 — But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me (NIV).
