Thoughts and Faith

Mark 5:27-28 — When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind Him in the crowd and touched His cloak, because she thought, “If I just touch His clothes, I will be healed” (NIV).

Thoughts are very powerful. Your attitude, words, and actions are a direct reflection of your thought life. Thoughts are what separate creative people from those who are unproductive. They are the difference between persevering and giving up. Thoughts cause one person to plan ahead and another to fly by the seat of his pants. Thoughts give confidence and cause depression.

Today I want to talk to you about thoughts as they relate to your faith. Thoughts can either partner with your faith or quench it. In Mark 5, you can read the account of a woman who suffered from an incurable blood disease. She had been subject to bleeding for twelve years and was a social outcast. Doctors could not help her; her finances were depleted, and she was dying.

When she heard about Jesus, her faith level increased. She believed in His ministry so much so that she fought through a large crowd to get to Him. I can’t even begin to imagine the struggle she faced physically and emotionally to get there. She had every reason in the world to feel sorry for herself and focus on her issues, but she did not think that way. Mark records her thoughts: “If I just touch His clothes, I will be healed.” She grabbed Jesus’ cloak, and immediately her bleeding stopped!

Her thoughts lined up with her faith, and she received her miracle! Many people miss out on God’s best for their lives because their thoughts crush their faith and abort their miracle.

Romans 10:17 says, “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (NKJV). If you can get the word of God on the inside of you and make your thoughts line up with it, your faith will skyrocket! I encourage you today to fill up on God’s word. Then when a crisis comes, your thoughts will turn to His promises, and you can face adversity with confidence.
