Romans 5:19 — For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous (KJV).
Disobedience and obedience both carry weighty consequences. Because of Adam’s disobedience, sin entered the world. The downfall of many came through the inappropriate actions of one man. This is amazing to me. What’s even more amazing is that Jesus made righteousness available to everyone by His obedience. Now those are some weighty consequences!
It gets even heavier than that, though. It was not a series of disobedient acts on Adam’s part that many were made sinners. It only took one! The same is true concerning righteousness. Through one act of obedience—death on a cross—Jesus restored hope to mankind. Hallelujah!
I tell you this because the decisions you make carry great weight, not only in your life, but also in the lives of those connected to you. If people would take this truth into consideration before they act, much collateral damage could be avoided. This may seem unfair, but life is unfair and sometimes the truth is as well.
Do you make decisions with your spouse and your family in mind? As a husband or father, if you decide to make a major decision that produces negative results, without talking it over with your wife first, you are not the only one who has to deal with the negative consequences. Your wife and children have to deal with them also. In fact, your lives may be affected for years to come.
Many people sabotage future relationships by making poor judgments calls in their present ones. The choices you make are important, and they have the potential to impact people positively or negatively both now and and in the future. Be obedient to God’s word. Make a positive impact on the people around you.
Proverbs 5:23 — Death is the reward of an undisciplined life; your foolish decisions trap you in a dead end (MSG).
