Psalm 1:1 — Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful (KJV).
If you want to be blessed, do not stand in the way of sinners. This has nothing to do with keeping sinners from coming to know God. While I would not advise you to prevent people from knowing Christ, this is not what the psalmist is referring to.
Another version says a man is blessed if he does not stand submissive or inactive in the path where sinners walk (AMP). The Message Bible says not to slink along Dead-End Road. In other words, God will not bless a person who idly stands on the path with sinners.
In fact, many well-meaning believers adopt “ways” that do not please God because they have casually stood in the way of sinners. Because they condone the sinful habits of others, they eventually take on some of the same shameful characteristics. This is usually a gradual process that can slip in undetected.
Christians who were once gentle and loving become angry and impatient. Encouragers start tearing others down. Optimists begin complaining. Households that were once peaceful give into turmoil and chaos. Holiness is traded for self-righteousness, and excuses replace repentance. When confronted, those who stand in the way of sinners often respond, “That’s just the way I am.” God does not bless this kind of behavior.
I want you to be honest with yourself today. Are you standing in the way of sinners? Have you adopted some ways that are not pleasing to God? Are you increasingly impatient? Does anger have a hold of you? Does your tongue need to be tamed? Do you lack self-discipline? Are you sabotaging your relationships? If so, allow the Holy Spirit guide and change the way you do things. God cannot bless you if you are slinking down Dead-End Road.
Psalm 1:6 — For the Lord watches over the path of the godly, but the path of the wicked leads to destruction (NLT).
