2 Timothy 3:16-17 — 16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work(NIV).
Many Christians feel inadequate. Perhaps you’re one of them. Maybe you feel incompetent and unworthy to fulfill the call of God on your life. The truth is God will equip you with everything you need to do His will (Hebrews 13:21), but you have to make yourself available and do your part.
My oldest son Noah decided several years ago that he wanted to start playing baseball. We had absolutely nothing he needed—no glove, no bat, no cleats, no baseballs, nothing. If he had shown up to the first practice without any gear, he would have felt embarrassed and inadequate.
So we went to Academy. They had all the equipment Noah needed in order to play baseball. We walked around for over an hour looking at everything from gloves to bats to uniform pants, but we didn’t just look at all of it. We bought it, and took it home. Then when it came time for practices and games to start, he was ready. He put on his uniform and cleats, got his glove and bat, and he confidently went out to play.
In much the same way, God’s word provides you with all the equipment you need to successfully carry out His plan for your life. Scripture teaches, rebukes, corrects, and trains you in righteousness, but reading over the Word is not enough. Just like Noah had to put on his baseball gear before he went out to play, you must apply the principles found in God’s word to your life. Otherwise, you will always feel unqualified.
I encourage you today to thoroughly study the word of God. Equip yourself with its principles, and your feelings of inadequacy will go.
Ephesians 2:10 — For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do (NIV).
