Have a Seat

Luke 5:2 — He saw at the water’s edge two boats, left there by the fishermen, who were washing their nets (NIV).

Picture this scene with me. Jesus was standing by the Sea of Galilee teaching the word of God to a group of people. As the crowd grew, He looked over and saw two boats at the edge of the water. The boats belonged to some fishermen who were busy washing their nets.

One of those men was Simon Peter, and little did he know, his life was about to be completely transformed. Over the next several days, we are going to take a look at his transformation. My prayer is that you, too, will take the steps necessary to change from a fisherman into a disciple.

Peter had been fishing all day and was probably exhausted. I imagine he was hungry and looked forward to going home for some much needed rest. He was busy washing his nets, and Jesus came and got in his boat. But not only that, Jesus asked him to put out a little from shore. Peter obliged, and Jesus sat down and continued to teach the people (Luke 5:3).

I’m amazed by Peter’s response here. He could have very easily said, “Hey! What are you doing? Can’t you see I’m cleaning my nets? It’s late, I’m tired, and I’m ready to go home. I don’t have time to give you a ride, so please get out of my boat.” Instead, he made room for Jesus to sit down.

Peter put aside his personal comfort to accommodate Jesus. This was a divine appointment that Peter chose not to miss. Unfortunately, there are many people who miss God’s will because it’s not convenient for them. I want to encourage you to allow Jesus to sit down in your boat. Fishing was Peter’s livelihood, and he gave Jesus a front row seat. My prayer is you will do the same. Make Him a priority today. Invite Him to take His place as the Lord of your life, family, job, finances, etc. Hallelujah!

2 Corinthians 3:18 — And we…are being transformed into His likeness with ever-increasing glory (NIV).
