Psalm 100:4 — Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name (NKJV).
Do you want to know the secret to experiencing more of God’s presence on a daily basis? Thanksgiving! Giving God thanks opens up the gates and gives you access to where He is. If you are grumpy and ungrateful most of the time, you likely haven’t felt God’s presence in a while.
Think of it like this. You probably know someone who is very difficult to be around. Maybe he or she is mostly negative, and they suck the life out of you with constant criticism or pessimism. His glass is always half empty, and the grass is always greener in someone else’s yard. You know who I’m talking about; you’re picturing that person right now.
Let’s say this certain individual calls you up one day and says he’s coming to your house to visit. After you run out of excuses as to why this day and that day would be bad for you, you reluctantly agree to a date. The day eventually arrives, and he shows up at your door. Normally you’re excited to greet your guests, but today you do your best to appear as if you’re gone. Why? You don’t want to subject yourself to the nagging and complaining.
I know it’s hard for me to be around an ungrateful person for an extended period of time. Sometimes I think God must feel the same way about us. He doesn’t dodge people or push them away, but many Christians live their lives absent of His presence because they do not appreciate Him.
Perhaps today you are having a difficult time finding something to be thankful for. I challenge you to offer up praise to Him right now. When you face trials, thank Him for the coming victory. When you’re sick, thank Him for the blood of Jesus. When people lie about you, praise Him because His word is true.
Psalm 69:30 — Then I will praise God’s name with singing, and I will honor Him with thanksgiving (NLT).
