John 10:10 — “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full” (NIV).
I’d imagine it’s very rare for a person to knowingly break into an empty house or a vacant store. Most thieves are looking to steal things of value, so they plot to rob places that are known to have valuables in them. This is why the enemy relentlessly pursues some believers. If he’s not constantly trying to pry his way into your life, it’s likely because you don’t have anything he wants.
Jesus said He came so you may have life, and have it to the full. A lot of people think of the life Jesus refers to here as being eternal life. While this is true, He’s also talking about our lives here on earth. Another version says, “My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life” (NLT). God’s desire is for us to experience abundance in every area of our lives, while we are still in the flesh.
I’ve heard it said before, “Earth is the only hell a Christian will ever experience.” I can kind of understand where people are coming from when they say something like this, but I just can’t bring myself to agree with it. Jesus wasn’t crucified so we could experience hell on earth. No, He wants us to enjoy our lives.
Don’t get me wrong. There will be multiple times of suffering as we follow Christ, but we do not have to be overcome by life’s obstacles. And the thief has no right to come in and steal the abundance Jesus has given us.
Be encouraged today. You have a gift, and it’s called Life to the Full. If you’ve already opened the gift and are living the blessed life God intended you to, safeguard your heart. Do not give the thief access to it. But if you are living a defeated life, void of God’s promises, receive His fullness now. Glory!
James 1:17 — Every good gift and every perfect (free, large, full) gift is from above; it comes down from the Father (AMP).
