1 Chronicles 23:30 — And each morning and evening they stood before the Lord to sing songs of thanks and praise to Him (NLT).
There is not better way to begin or end a day than by giving God thanks for what He has done and praising Him for who He is.
Teachers have a tool called “sentence starters” that help their students to begin writing effectively. In much the same way, we have “day starters” to help us begin our day effectively. They’re called thanks and praise.
Many mornings I just don’t feel like getting up (much like today). My alarm goes off, and I want to start my day by smacking the snooze button twelve or thirteen times. It’s easy to complain—I do sometimes—but I try to focus my attention on good things: I’m actually able to get up. I have a great job to go to. I’m healthy and so is my family.
Likewise, at night, after long hours at work, Heidi and I come home and start unwinding and talking about how our day went. If I’m not careful, sometimes I go off on everything that went wrong and how frustrating So-and-So is. In those moments, I again thank God for stability, a steady income, and the people He has placed in my life.
I encourage you today: Begin and end every day by giving thanks and praise to God. You’ll start off in a better mood and go to bed content.
