Isaiah 43:2 — “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze” (NIV).
Our son Jack loved the character Woody from the Toy Story movies. Several years ago, when he first watched Toy Story, he became obsessed with everything Woody. One day we made the mistake of walking down the toy aisle of a certain store. Jack caught a glimpse of a Woody doll, and he just had to have it.
We bought the doll, and the two of them were inseparable. Jack wouldn’t allow anyone to play with his new toy, and if someone tried, he’d do his best to defend Woody. He tried to take the doll everywhere we went. Jack loved Woody, and Woody loved Jack. They were a match made in heaven.
However, after a few weeks, Woody found himself buried at the bottom of the toy box. The excitement had worn off. Woody still belonged to Jack, but Jack lost his passion to play with him. Video games, books, and other toys became more important. However, when the next Toy Story movie was released, Jack’s passion for Woody returned. (He even got a full costume.)
I want to share with you something I’ve learned. God doesn’t say you are His, and then sit you on the top shelf to collect dust. He doesn’t change the way He feels about you from week to week. You are precious to Him, and He is with you everywhere you go. He will never bury you in the toy box.
When you pass through the waters, He doesn’t say, “Oh wait, I can’t swim. You got this.” When you pass through the rivers, He doesn’t toss you a life jacket and wish you luck. He doesn’t abandon you when you walk through the fire either. God is always interested in you, and His interest doesn’t vary from day to day. His passion for you never wears off.
Matthew 28:20 — “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (NIV).
