Don’t Be Intimidated

Philippians 1:28-30 — 28 Don’t be intimidated by your enemies. This will be a sign to them that they are going to be destroyed, but that you are going to be saved, even by God Himself. 29 For you have been given not only the privilege of trusting in Christ but also the privilege of suffering for Him. 30 We are in this fight together (NLT).

Do not be intimidated by your enemies! As long as you are still breathing, you will face opposition because of your faith. Unfortunately, you will be opposed by both Christians and non-Christians alike. The enemy of our souls uses people as tools of intimidation. His purpose is to cause us to become fearful and cower back, but we do not have to be timid.

In fact, if we resist the attacks of our enemies, Paul says it will serve as a sign to them that they are going to be destroyed and that we are going to be saved. The greatest way to respond to intimidation is to stand up to it. We are representatives of Jesus Christ. When we shrink back in the face of opposition, we portray Him as a wimp. But when we stand up and don’t back down, it brings Him glory. What an awesome testimony for those attempting to intimidate you!

Each of us has been given the privilege of trusting in Christ and sharing in His blessings, but suffering for Him is also a privilege. Understanding this truth is key to breaking intimidation in your life.

Another word for privilege is freedom. Most everyone is willing to fight for their freedom. Our country fought for freedom and broke the intimidation of the nations that had us bound. If you count suffering for Christ as a privilege, you will be willing to do whatever it takes to protect that freedom.

Let me encourage you today. As Paul wrote, “We are in this fight together,” and together we will win. Thank You, Lord!

Hebrews 10:39 — But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who believe and are saved (NIV).
