In With the New

Ephesians 4:23-24 — 23 To be made new in the attitude of your minds; 24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness (NIV).

I believe countless Christians abandon their faith because they fail to put these verses into practice. Many people get saved and even put off their old selves, but they wind up returning to their former lifestyle. Maybe your life has followed a similar pattern. My prayer is for you to break the cycle today.

After we separate ourselves from our old lifestyle, Paul taught we need to be made new in the attitude of our minds. This means we have to renew our manner, feelings, position, and outlook. Our perspective has to change, or there will be no lasting change in our lives.

How do you renew the attitude of your mind? Purpose to have the same attitude as Jesus. Philippians 2:5 says, “Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus” (NIV). Jesus was not in a competition with the Father, nor did He lobby for His own will to be done. The Bible says Jesus made Himself nothing and took on the nature of a servant. He was humble and obedient, and your attitude should reflect His (Philippians 2:6-8).

Once the attitude of your mind is renewed, you have to put on the new self. This truth is where so many people miss it. They may take off their old selves, but they never put on the new. They walk around exposed and vulnerable, and eventually they cover themselves with what’s familiar—the old self.

If you’ve been caught exposed today, I encourage you to put on the new self. You were created to be like God and to live in true righteousness and holiness. Allow your mindset to be altered. Humble yourself and become a servant to His kingdom and to others. Make the declaration, “In with the new!” Glory to God!

Romans 13:14 — Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature (NIV).
