Acts 16:25-26 — 25 But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them. 26 Suddenly there was a great earthquake (NKJV).
I imagine prison has a way of revealing a person’s true heart condition. That’s why I find it remarkable that Paul and Silas were praising God in chains from their prison cell, and it certainly wasn’t a half-hearted, I-have-to-do-this kind of praise. They were singing loud enough for all the prisoners to hear. But what’s even more remarkable is what happened as they were singing.
All of a sudden, there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken. The cell door’s opened and everyone’s chains were loosed. They were set free! That’s how quickly everything can turn around for someone whose heart is full of joy and praise toward God.
Perhaps your life has reached a “midnight hour” of sorts. You’re shackled by your circumstances, and there appears to be no hope for you. I encourage you to tap into the joy within. Begin to praise Him now. God is about the shake the very foundation of your personal prison. Jail break!
Matthew 18:18 — “Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven” (NIV).
