John 16:22 — “Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy” (NIV).
Our boys are a little less than two years apart. When Jack was very small, Noah was entering the toddler years and could easily overpower his younger brother. He would take things from Jack without much of a fight. (Although Jack would scream loudly.)
Now that they’re older and Jack is stronger, the struggle is real. Jack is a fierce competitor, and he often outlasts Noah in a fight for something he doesn’t want to give up. But even when Noah refuses to quit, Jack is usually able to hold on long enough for Mom or Dad to step in and settle the matter.
In much the same way, Satan comes to rob you of the joy you have in Christ, and you may feel overwhelmed right now. But as you mature and are strengthened spiritually, he cannot take your joy without your consent. James 4:7 says to resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Perhaps the strongest weapon in your arsenal is praise. Rejoicing strengthens you and disarms the enemy. Begin to lift your voice right now! If you hold on long enough, the devil will be scared stupid when your Father steps in.
