Proverbs 17:22 — A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones (ESV).
The RxList is an online medical resource of prescription medications that provides full prescribing information and patient education. Joy didn’t make the list, but laughter classes are actually offered at MD Anderson Cancer Center.
Most prescriptions have several undesirable side effects, and none of them boast a perfect success rate. But the joy of the Lord has no unhealthy side effects and works every time!
One version of the Bible says joy brings good healing, and another that it improves the body. (MD Anderson might be onto something.) Nowhere does it say that joy causes headaches, skin rash, or frequent urination.
John prayed that we would be healthy in body as we are strong in spirit. I prescribe you at least one good, hearty belly laugh a day for an indefinite period of time. Try it. You won’t experience any adverse side effects, but it will do your body and spirit a whole lot of good.
3 John 1:2 — Dear friend, I hope all is well with you and that you are as healthy in body as you are strong in spirit (NLT).
