Nehemiah 8:10 — And be not grieved and depressed, for the joy of the Lord is your strength and stronghold (AMP).
The joy of the Lord deters depression. Scripture commands us not to be depressed, so that means you and I have a choice in the matter.
Many people are ruled by depression because they do not take responsibility for it. Make a conscious decision today not to be depressed, but don’t try to go at it alone. The joy of the Lord is your strength and stronghold in the fight. You do not have to allow yourself to be overcome by the uncertainty and unfairness of life.
Difficulties often expose weaknesses and leave a person feeling vulnerable, but that’s where joy steps in. His joy gives you the fortitude to persevere, and it also serves as a fortress to protect. Wow, now let that sink in!
I encourage you to use joy as a depression deterrent. Allow God to strengthen and cover you before life gets the best of you. Depression cannot win unless you choose to lose. Be strong in His joy today.
Matthew 6:34 — “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own” (NIV).
