1 Corinthians 3:1-2 – 1 Brothers and sisters, I could not address you as people who live by the Spirit but as people who are still worldly—mere infants in Christ. 2 I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready (NIV).
At the time of this writing, the Corinthians were very worldly. Some had joined churches, but they still behaved immaturely. Paul caught wind of this and essentially directed them to grow up. (I would encourage you to read his entire exhortation in the book of 1 Corinthians.)
I believe this is a resounding message for all Christians today: We must turn our eyes on Jesus and follow hard after Him and His ways. Growing up in Christ means there is no longer time for bickering, blaming, and backbiting. Our job as believers is to reach the lost, and we can’t effectively do so if we are against each other.
Let this serve as a wakeup call to you! It’s time for you to grow up and move on to maturity. Begin in your current relationships. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any rifts there might be between you and someone else. Be honest with yourself and others; the process is worthwhile.
1 Corinthians 14:20 – Brothers and sisters, stop thinking like children. In regard to evil be infants, but in your thinking be adults (NIV).
