All That and a Bag of Chips

1 Peter 5:6 – Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time (NIV).

To humble yourself means to examine your life and actions in light of God’s word. It means to bring yourself low—to bow down. In other words, humility causes a person not to think he is all that and a bag of chips. Ha!

Humility is also freeing. There is nothing more liberating than to bow down in His presence and allow Him to cover you. He wants to protect you. Humility is what keeps you safe and in good standing. Plus, it gives you direct access to the throne room of God.

In 1 Peter 5:6, we are instructed to humble ourselves under God’s mighty hand. If you don’t humble yourself, you will inevitably humiliate yourself. It’s better, and easier on the ego, to be humble than humbled.
