Luke 22:42 – “Father, if You are willing, take this cup from Me; yet not My will, but Yours be done.” [NIV]
The second way we must forgive is what I like to call feelings-free forgiveness. The truth is if we left the decision whether to forgive or not up to our feelings, we would choose not to most of the time.
Jesus obviously didn’t feel like dying for the sins of mankind, but He put His feelings aside and obeyed. Walking in the God-kind of love will require you to make the same decision.
You are responsible for managing your own emotions. People and circumstances will cause you to feel a certain way, and those emotions are very real and powerful, but you must discipline yourself to control them and not allow them to control you.
Unforgiveness is fueled by emotions—anger, bitterness, rejection, etc. But forgiveness is fueled by love. Be led by love today. Don’t allow your feelings to prevent you from forgiving those who have wronged you.
Galatians 5:22-23 – But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. [NKJV]
