Ephesians 2:4-5 – 4 But because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ when we were dead in transgressions (NIV).
You have been made alive with Christ. But why would God do something so great for someone so undeserving? The answer is simple: Because of His great love for you.
When you were at your absolute worst, dead in sin, God loved you with His very best. And because He is rich in mercy, He prevented you from getting what you deserved—certain death. Jesus was your substitute. He died in your place, in order that you might have life.
Now you have a responsibility to love others in the same way. When someone shows you the worst side of himself today, give him your best. When she is worthy of your wrath, show her mercy. Practice loving in this way, and your life will reflect reconciliation, not revenge.
Romans 5:8 – But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us (NKJV).
