John 15:5 – “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in Me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing” (NIV).
A violent storm recently blew through our area. It dropped buckets of rain and several tornadoes. Our home was spared any significant damage, but the wind left branches scattered all over our yard.
As we picked them up the next day, I noticed how quickly their leaves had withered and how easy it was to snap them in two. As a part of the tree, life flowed in, through, and out of the branches. Apart from the tree, they died. We stacked them on the burn pile and prepared them for incineration.
Your life in Christ is a picture of this story. In Him, your relationship is both intimate and organic. You are dependent on Him to produce anything lasting or worthwhile. He’s your source, or lifeblood.
Storms and seemingly greener pastures will come, but, unlike tree branches, they can’t separate you from the vine without your consent. Stay in Christ and bear much; stray from Him and do nothing.
