2 Corinthians 5:21 – For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him (NKJV).
The Message Bible says it this way: “God put the wrong on Him who never did anything wrong, so we could be put right with God.” In other words, God put everything that was wrong with you on Christ, so you could have everything that’s right with Him.
In His perfect state of being, Jesus literally became the sins of mankind. 1 Peter 2:14 says He bore our sins in His body. Try to wrap your mind and heart around this. Jesus was all of the murder, cheating, abortion, homosexuality, racism, drug addiction, and fraud. He bore humanity’s hatred, lust, and abuse. Every secret sin was upon Him. Why did He do it? For the sake of making you righteous.
Hebrews 10:14 describes it best: “It was a perfect sacrifice by a perfect person to perfect some very imperfect people” (MSG). God put His stamp of approval on you the moment you received Jesus. Now when the Father looks at you, He remembers the right Christ did, not the wrong you did.
