2 Corinthians 5:18 – Now all things are of God (NKJV).
The life cycle of a butterfly consists of four stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. The beautiful insect is part of a select group that undergoes a complete transformation, or metamorphosis.
Perhaps you’re familiar with the children’s book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. (It has sold over 30 million copies worldwide.) The story follows a caterpillar, or larva, as it eats everything in sight–fruit, chocolate cake, ice cream, salami, and more.
A larva is ugly and selfish by nature. Its purpose is to eat and get fat. But once it goes through the transformation process, it emerges with a serious facelift and a renewed purpose. The butterfly no longer resembles its old self, and its new cause is to reproduce.
The same is true for you in Christ. The old you was selfish, but the new you is selfless. All things are now of God, including your reason for being. You are to reproduce. He has given you the ministry of reconciliation. Now go and make disciples.
