Ecclesiastes 4:6 – One handful of peaceful repose is better than two fistfuls of worried work—more spitting into the wind (MSG).
Another version says it this way: Better to have one handful of quietness than two handfuls with hard work and chasing the wind (NIV).
Many people are overworking in an attempt to fill their hands with the things they think will bring them peace. Unfortunately, doing so is about as productive as chasing the wind.
Working yourself to the bone only causes you to worry and creates strife in your relationships. You may eventually possess what it is you’re striving for, but at what cost? Nothing is worth forfeiting the peace of God for. Nothing.
Now, I’m not giving you an invitation to become lazy. There is a huge difference between making time to rest and being a sloth. But if you’re a responsible, hard-working person, make relaxing in God’s presence a daily priority. A handful of His peace satisifies the soul much more than two fistfuls of material things.
Matthew 6:33 – “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and He will give you everything you need” (NLT).
